Common questions

Is the self-hosted version really free?

Yes. The install script and all OpenClaw features are free and open-source. You only pay for your VPS (from ~€5/month) and AI API usage (typically €5-30/month depending on how much you use it).

What's the difference between self-hosted and managed?

Self-hosted: you run the server, you maintain it, you have full control. Managed: we handle the server, updates, security, and configuration. Same software, different levels of effort on your side.

What AI models can I use?

Any model available on OpenRouter: Claude (Anthropic), GPT-4 (OpenAI), Gemini (Google), Llama, Mistral, and dozens more. You can switch models at any time.

Is my data secure?

Your agent runs on its own isolated environment. Data never passes through our servers. For managed plans, the server is hosted in Europe (Germany/Finland), fully GDPR compliant.

Can I migrate from self-hosted to managed (or vice versa)?

Yes. It's the same software. Export your agent's workspace, import it on the new setup. We can help with the migration.

Do I need technical knowledge?

For self-hosted: basic comfort with a terminal (SSH, running commands). For managed: none at all. If you can use WhatsApp, you can set up your agent.
